For Catholic brides out there, what is the average amount of money to give to your priest for the wedding?
I am trying to determine what is the proper and respectful amount to pay my priest for officiating our wedding. There is no other fee associated with his service, only the cost of the church.
Public Comments
- We are paying our $50.00.
- Since there is no fee you want to give an amount you can afford but generally it would be about the $100-$200 range, more or less budget allowed.
- Our priest wouldn't accept any money. the church didn't charge anything since we were members. the reception was at another location, and THEY charged a lot.
- Whatever you can reasonable afford. $100 would be great unless you live in an expensive area.
- Our priest didn't charge anything either. If you want to make a donation then feel free and put it into the priests name if you like, or just donate and hand the priest the envelope. I didn't give anything to the priest, just the church, the singer at the church and everything else. Enjoy your wedding and congratulations!
- You got robbed $$$$$$$$$$$$
- I just got married on Friday, Sept 5, 08. The church we got married at charged us $300.00 and we gave the priest a nice card w/$50.00 for him. It's up to you, what you want to give and what you can afford
- Check with the church secretary to see if there is a suggested donation. Otherwise, a $200 honourarium is just right.
- Our church told us the usual gift is $200...how its a gift if they've determined an amount is beyond me.
- our church told us $50 dollars. Depends on what you think is right
- Most catholic weddings that I have been in gave the Father between $40 - $150.00. Most of them based it on the ceremony. Some of them had special requests which made the ceremony longer.
- We're in Toronto, ON. We're giving about $100 to my pastor (the RC priest) and $100 to my fiance's pastor (non-RC). We're also going to donate about $400 for use of the church.
- When I conduct Baptism Class I suggest an honorarium equal to what you would pay to fill your car. If you can afford a large gas guzzling Suburban than you can afford a larger honorarium. The same idea could be applied to the priest or deacon's honorarium.
