What's the biggest thing brides need information on?

What kind of information are brides always looking for and can never find enough of? Do-it-yourself articles? Vendor feedback? How to cut down expenses to keep to your budget?

  1. Ways to save money. Since my fiance and I aren't doing a traditional ceremony I was spending a lot of time and effort thinking of ways to keep the reception formal but small and within a tight budget. We wanted to know how to have a nice event while not spending a lot of money.
  2. I needed different information at different stages of the planning. Up front, I needed really basic information on what did I need for a traditional wedding (venues, DJs, florists, photographers, etc.) and what were the likely costs for those things where I live. Once I had the list of what we needed, then we could develop a budget, and refine our plan based on what we could afford. Once we had an overall plan, then I needed more specific information on vendors. Who is available, at what cost, what sorts of packages might I expect to encounter. Around this time I needed some help about what kinds of questions to ask the caterer, DJ, photographer, etc., and what specific services I might expect from them, what I could negotiate. After that, I needed checklists to be sure I had included everything we wanted, and a timeline for when particular things should be done. When we got to this detail stage, I needed ideas for things we decided to do ourselves (invitations, centerpieces, favors), and vendors to order these kinds of things from. Finally, I sought advice on the fine details of things (the proper wording for the invitations, etiquette for inviting guests and addressing invitations, choosing ceremony music and music for events at the reception (entrance, first dance, etc.).
  3. The problem i'm having... that i feel the knot, brides.com, and the other websites overlook... is Local vendors. If you dont live in a major metropolis - you're kinda screwed on finding vendors and vendor feed back. I'm getting married in Richmond,VA. This is not a small city, its a capital city. There is NO excuse that when you do a search for vendors, you can only find folks in DC, and Northern Virginia.... thats only about 1/5 the state... what about the rest of us?!?!
  4. One good way to get vendor information is to see if there are any LOCAL professional organizations for wedding vendors. Most decent sized-cities have guilds just for wedding professionals, which can be a good source of information on which vendors are reliable and provide quality work.
