500 Wedding Ideas

What are all you brides doing for ceremony music??

I am a soon to be bride for a October 19th wedding, planning a lot of it myself. Although, I wasn't too sure about music so I hired a violinist for $200 (which I considered reasonable) to play a bit before the wedding and during the ceremony. What do you all think of this, and what are you doing for music?

  1. Love the violin idea!! $200 is a good price for your whole ceremony. My sister plays the harp so thats what we're having. Just make sure you have the correct sheet music for your musician, and you don't just have piano sheet music or something.
  2. My dad knows a lot of muscians so i am having a keyboardist that I used to go to a lot with him play at my wedding. If his partner (in music, not in life) were still alive I'd have him play the tumpet. (it's funny because about 4 years ago I asked dad when I got married if he thought they might play at the ceremony...then a year later I met my soon to be hubby.) BTW a violinist would be really nice!
  3. I'm having a violinist too. He's some famous guy that my mom works for and he's doing it for free so we jumped on the opportunity. $200 is a decent price and it'll be lovely. Other than that, I haven't thought about music at all and my wedding is 50 days away!
  4. That sounds lovely - a violin is romantic and classic, and that's really not a bad price. I'm an October 20th bride myself, and we're getting married in our Catholic Church. For a mere $300, I get the choir and organist.....not too much else I could do, their kinda strict! Have a wonderful wedding!
  5. $200 for a violinist is not a bad price at all. I had a harpist play for my wedding last week. The only problem with a violinist is that you have a limited selection for ceremony music. If you had an accompanist for the violinist, the music would sound complete instead of just the melody. When the bridal party walked down the aisle, I had the harpist play Pachelbel's Canon in D. A harp, since it's like a piano, can play all 4 lines, whereas a single violinist cannot. It's something to look into. If you like stringed instruments, you could look into a quartet or string trio as well.
  6. We are having a solo classical guitarist - the instrument I love the sound of most. You got a great deal! Our guy was also $200, but he is just starting out in his career. The other soloists in this area run about $5-600.
  7. It's probably going to be lovely!! For us, my fiance and I were in a gospel choir together, and we have asked the band that plays with the choir to be the ceremony musicans, and for our unity candle/worship songs we are asking a few of our musical friends to be a pseudo 'band' for us.
  8. Oh how lovely, I would also say it is a good price. I'd love a harpist for my wedding, but it's not to my other half's taste, so we are doing "special songs" on a tape to play at the registry office and then the rest of the day music will be played from my brother in law's zen (it's a house party with only 35 guests so no DJ needed) I've got some of my classical favourites on the play list for the afternoon.
  9. $200 is very reasonable for a violinist. My fiance plays guitar so we've hired a classical guitarist to play before and during the ceremony.
  10. before hand we are using beach waves with music... then my bosses daughter is singing When you say nothing at all by allison kraus for the bridal party Then his nephew will sing and acoustic version of making memories by keith urban And his wife is going to sing a song of her choice for us.
  11. We've hired a celloist and pianist to play! Then we have a DJ for the reception! Ours cost quite a bit more than what your paying for a violinist! Both yours and mine I bet are going to be beautiful! You defiently got a good deal! :) Good luck and congrats!
