Why do white American spend so much energy on weddings when they always end up in divorce?

Im just wondering. I find it rather odd. People our culture, make weddings/marriages a month long festival but it is due to the fact that in my culture marriage is forever, a wedding means something.

10. You should see English women. They love that sort of thing there too. In the USA it really depends on who you're talking to. My sister's wedding wasn't extravagant at all. It varies here greatly because of the diverse values and personal opinion.

15. It means a lot to white American girls initially also, but so does having their own way continually which often ends the marriage. I think the bigger the wedding the more chance of it ending.

Besides, in some countries (maybe the one you live in) there are penalties for people who divorce like being disowned by their own families, so the divorce rate is much lower. I'd rather live in a country where people are free to marry and divorce when they like without being chastised.

We had a tiny wedding with just a dozen friends and family, lunch in a steak house (with a wedding cake), 2 weeks honeymoon in the South West of England. That was over 51 years ago, so it doesn't take a large outlay and a lot of show to make a successful marriage.
