How much to charge brides for makeup?

I'm a freelance makeup artist and just starting off. I will be going to school for it in a month. I wanted to know how much should I charge for brides? I want my price to include product usage, consultation fee and transportation fee. Are there any other fees I should include. Thanks for the help!

  1. US$55 per hour
  2. I think $50 dollars is good per hour. And hun, it all depends on you. It depends on what YOU think is right.
  3. to be honest, if you charge too much, people may use your service, but they may not come back or recommend you. some brides are so ecstatic for their special day that they don't care or consider the price, but it's not nice to take advantage of that. since you aren't using the entire product, but are going to their house i am guessing from transportation, i'd suggest $25 to $30, unless you're doing their hair too. i always got my hair and makeup done for $25 at pageant time, and it was at a professional salon here in MS. if it's not too far out of the way, don't charge too much for transportation. like i said, some may go for it, but if they consider you're prices too high, you won't have many customers. also, keep in mind if you're prices are lower, more people will use your service and that price will add up the more people use it. it's better to have 10 clients at $25 or $30 a piece than 2 or 3 at $60. also, that is $25 or $30 an hour.
  4. I find that if you include like "Combo Bridal Party Packages" the brides are more likely to pick your services. Depending on the size of the party I charge an upwards of $200, if they ask for an hourly rate I always say $60-65. If you're talented and always do a good job, your services should be expected to be a bit higher. BTW, I have enough clients weekly to where I can pay off my mortage. So I think it's solely based on skill level.
  5. my mom is a make-up artist and charges $250 for everything u included but my mom also does hairstyles and loans jewelry too for that flat rate. When she started out, she charged her first bride $75
  6. it all depends on where you live. you can't charge 500$ in the middle of nowhere...check out the competition in your town and be just a bit cheaper... don't be too cheap no one will trust you. They will think you don't know what you are doing!!
