what type of brides maids dress doesnt look like a brides maids dress lol?

I am helping a friend plan her wedding and she wants us to have brides maids dresses that we can wear again and she doesnt want them to look like brides maids dresses in her pictures - she wants them to look more like party dresses. The wedding will be in the fall btw.

  1. Don't go with a designer that labels their dresses as "bridesmaid's attire" Go to a department store, such as Macy's, Lord & Taylor or Nordstroms. Those stores have whole departments that specialize in just dresses and evening wear. You'll be able to find a wide variety of formal, evening or cocktail dresses that don't scream "bridesmaid" Also, try stores like White House, Black Market and Cache.
  2. everyone can pick out their own little black dress and you can accent them with a bow or sash in her color choice. simple elegance.
  3. go with a short cocktail style dress. that way no matter what her colors for the wedding are, the girls can still wear them again. david's bridal also has a new pattern that looks great. http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49998974&currentIdx=39&subCategory=-49998976%7c-49998975%7c-49998974&catentryId=6110570&sort=

  5. than just pick any dress, you could go to a store like Kohl's and look at their dresses, once you find one you like than just ask the salespeople to order some in the bridesmaids sizes
  6. I agree with the other people who mentioned cocktail length dresses. The best way to pick dresses that everybody will wear again is to let everybody pick their own! Have the bride choose a color, and then let everybody else pick what dress they want in that color. (make sure you specify to the bridesmaids that casual is better, since thats what the bride wants!)

  10. I definitely think cocktail dresses or anything that's poofy does not look like a bridesmaid dress. personally though, I think the bridesmaids should be close to matching, so that they don't blend into the crowd. You want them to know they are the bridesmaids! So I guess I would imagine cool cocktail dresses but they all wear the same-ish dress and look unified. I recommend you check out Shiny Orb. It's a comparison shopping site for bridesmaid dresses so you can view a whole bunch of dresses at once AND filter them by style. There's also a co-shopping feature so you and your friend can get together over chat and shop the site together. It's pretty cool.
