What do you think of black and white weddings?

My fiance and I were talking about wedding colors. I wanted white and red and he wanted black and blue. So we decided on black and white. However when I told my mother our colors she said that it would be different, In a bad way. So what do you think of Black and White weddings?

Public Comments

  1. i thinnk its traditional
  2. I dont think anything If that's what you want, then go for it. Its your wedding, not mine, not your mothers.
  3. I think its way too traditional. Mine are going to be turquoise and black. Different, yet very pretty. =]
  4. So, what colour are you and your fiancee?
  5. Black and white weddings are not unheard of. But i'd recommend Black and red.. they look lovely together.
  6. I say your mother is either superstitious (Marry in black, wish yourself back) or she is quite misinformed. If you want a black/white wedding there are lots of lovely things you can do - white flowers with black and white ribbons (go easy on the black for the ceremony) and black/white confetti to toss, etc. etc. etc. It can be quite lovely if handled with care.
  7. Sounds great! It's your wedding. Do what makes you happy. I was a flower girl in my Aunt's wedding way back in the day....I wore a black silk dress and a white hat!
  8. I think it would look gorgeous! Its your wedding so its up to you, you only get married once (well some people more than once) but with a black and white wedding, you 2 will stay together forever. I love the Idea, Good Luck MissyMoo xx
  9. I think ALOT of people have them. Black & White are probably the two most popular wedding colors there are. Many people stick with just black & white and many other people add 1 color for a bit of pop. Our colors are black, white & cranberry red.
  10. I have been to a couple of black and white wedding and they were both very classy (not sure if that has anything to do with the color or not) Your mom is wrong in two ways: 1) Black and white is not different, it's actually very popular right now 2) Black and white is not "bad". I can't see how any color would be "bad" Color choice is simply a matter of taste. If you and your fiance like it, go for it!
  11. Would you consider adding some red to the black and white? I think touches of red would be really pretty...red flowers, sashes for the bridesmaids, etc. My brother-in-law has been a wedding photographer for years, so I have seen many pictures. They are always nicer when there is some color.
  12. I think it's lovely. Most of my purses are black and white.lol.I just love those colors together. It's mainly the older crowd who will have a problem with those colors. They think black is for funerals. So not true.My bridesmaids are going to be wearing black dresses. So if that is what you guys want, thats what it shall be.Nobody elses opinion matters.
  13. Black and White weddings are beautiful, but can be tricky to pull off without looking "goth". My suggestion is to have white be the predominant color, with black accents (and black tuxes) with lots of crystal and glass around. Try to keep to clean lines and avoid too much frill. An Example: CEREMONY: white wedding dress white Calla lilies with greenery and "crystal" drops black bridesmaids dresses with white sashes and lilies black tuxes white ribbons on the pews White flowers and greenery *do NOT use black ribbons on anything, they are overpowering! RECEPTION: Either in a hall with LOTS of windows and/or mirrors or outside in the garden white table cloths OR black table clothes with white chair covers LOTS of white candles in glass holders favors in black boxes tied with white ribbons Remember, almost any colors can be made elegantly! And it's your wedding!
  14. Fine with me as long as they have proper food and bar and thank cards are sent on time. Good lukc
  15. I think it's pretty common. I've seen it done where they use red flowers with the black and white and it looks very classy. Congrats
  16. I loooove the idea of a black and white wedding. My only advice is maybe you should add an accent color like the red or blue just to spruce it up some. :o).
  17. My sister had a black and white wedding and it was beautiful
  18. To be honest....it's over used. It is nice, but it more of a "formal" type of wedding, in my opinion. So for a later evening wedding it would be nice. But there are some that have done the "black and white" with a beach wedding. It's all up to you and your fiance. If those are the colors you like...then you should definitely have them.
  19. i think it is classy
  20. Actually, black and white weddings are very beautiful. Black & White is actually the "in" color this spring season. Very sophisticated.
  21. I actually love a black and white wedding - I find it very elegant and minimalist.. I don't think it's traditional though - there are still some out there who don't like black on weddings.
  22. I think its lame, just like children wanting to play house and get married.
  23. My brother and his wife had a black and white wedding, and I thought it sounded like a terrible idea - but it was actually very elegant and there was plenty of colour from the flowers and decorations. I think black and white sounds better than your other two ideas.
